DALLAS, TEXAS (December 11, 2009) - The holidays are a time when our hearts are filled with gratitude and hope. It is also the season of giving and a time when we are called to love and serve others. The Snowball Express is an opportunity to pay tribute to all the military families who have lost loved ones and borne the hardships of war. Its mission is to provide hope and new memories to the children of our fallen military heroes who died while on active duty since September 11, 2001. In the past, Snowball Express has held multi-day Christmas galas in the month of December for as many war widows and children as possible. This year's gala was held in Dallas, Texas, where 1,300 children and their families took part in four days worth of fun activities. For Snowball Express IV, Excitement Technologies Group was privileged to be a part of giving something special back to those who've sacrificed for our country.
On the third day of the event, the city of Dallas honored attendees with a walk of gratitude at Dallas City Hall, followed by a special day of fun activities at the Dallas Convention Center. As the families entered the Center, they were treated to a spectacular full color laser show produced by ETG. Two full color solid state lasers and three green yag lasers filled the entryway above people's heads with dazzling beams of laser light. Concert quality sound pumped musical favorites both old and new through the air. ETG Production Manager Dani Sawtell and Production Coordinator Matt Roelfs placed the lasers in an array at various heights specially designed to maximize the viewing impact to the audience. Mike Dunn handled laser programming and show operation. The lasers were run via a Pangolin Showtime multi-card system. Dunn says it was an honor to be involved with the event, "The kids were really excited when they walked in and saw the lasers over their heads. It was great being able to help brighten the day for those who'd given up so much for us." The attendees were then treated to a day of special games and events, capped off by a private concert by actor Gary Sinise's "Lt. Dan Band." In a letter to a local newspaper, a grandmother who attended the event with her grandchildren recalled, "The experience has changed my life and touched my heart. Patriotism at its finest was displayed and love at its purest was offered and returned. Sharing a child's smile. Make that 1,300 smiles. What else could be more important?"
